Please Help Me With Air Conditioner Problem

I bought my mother-in-law's 97 cutlass last year. Had to put refridgerant (?) in it two times to keep the air cooling during the summer. Went to O'Riley's and they sold me a hose with a meter on it and the refridgreant to go with it.

After not using the air all winter, I could not get any cold air this week when I needed it. I put more refridgerant in and can hear the compressor kick on and off when I push the air conditioner button on and off. Just one problem. Cannot get any cold air to come out. Just blows air. Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Re: Please Help Me With Air Conditioner Problem

I know from experience if you put to much refridgerant in, the compressor will kick on and off. On the guage it should show a max level of how much it can hold, once you go past that, just bout anything can happen.

Or the compressor is going bad. But I would check the level again, and if it has to much, then you must bleed it out, and it's messy! It's nasty stuff, and will go everywhere, so if you have to do it, be careful and use protective gear. But double check the level first, and wait for more comments.

Trying to diagnose a/c problems this way can ruin the system, you need the proper pressure gages on it, take high and low readings and properly analyze what is happening, usually this is for a pro. You have no way to really know what the system is doing otherwise.
