time travel/FTL travel

heres another question to ponder. scientists now know that the simple act of observing an object can change its size, shape, orientation, location, and behavior. now it doesnt seem so farfetched that the universe is infinite. and this seems to me like it opens up a whole new world of physical manipulation, most notably time travel and FTL travel. scientists have proven that a particle can exist in (so far) up to 3000 different places at the same time, yet when observed, has never moved. so if you look at the particle, and its at point A. then you look away, and look back its still there. but when its not being observed by anything, it can be at however many other points at the same time, yet hasnt changed. but what makes it stay at point A when you look back at it? whats to keep it from being at point B, or point C, or point marshmallow? that i think is the basis for FTL travel. and i think its around the corner. i dont know about you but im excited.

It's possible to go forwards in time but not backwards. The type of time travel we think of it possible with our science in going forwards. To go back in time requires a science we do not have yet and I think isn't possible.

If you sped away from Earth at the speed of light for one year, slowed down for a year, came back for the last two years, something like one-million years would of passed on Earth.

Or some shit, my science teacher told us a few years back. Crazy.

It's the two brothers and 60 years. One goes away on a ship going the speed of light for 60 years while the other stays on Earth. If they both left in their 20's, in theory, the one in the ship when he got back would be in his 30's-40's while the brother who stayed would be in his 80's.

but scientists have proven that the brain can send/recieve (forgot which one, maybe both) inputs back in time...they've already done this. i forgot some of the details, maybe someone else has heard of this or ill try and research a bit more, but they basically put someone in local anesthetic during brain surgery, so they were awake and functioning, then watched the brain during muscle movement, and also stimulated the area of the brain to make the same muscle movement, and it took longer for the action to happen when they stimulated the brain than the other way around.

I was listening to a program on National Public Radio and the premise of the listener call in portion was “what specific time and place would you go back to and why”. The responses of the callers got me thinking. If time travel is possible then why don't we have have any evidence, even anecdotal, of time travelers coming back in time?

Multiverse? Maybe they go to a different universe that is on a different time frame then ours.

If time travel were possible, we would be able to do it right now. Eventually, it would be so common that everyone could do it. Someone would come back in time and invent one sooner than the original inventor for the money they would surely make off it. That would keep repeating until time travel was always possible, and we weren't having this discussion.

or maybe time travel is possible but if you go back in time your memory would also go back in time, and it would be like you were never in the future. either a blank slate or a complete mental shutdown. maybe its possible for objects and not humans. or maybe... anyways im having a little trouble finding that reference... but anyways its starting to seem like the bending of space/time is very close

Good point, but the only posible thing I can think to answer is that, if you went back in time, would you tell anyone? I'd keep it a secret!

Besides, no one would believe you anyway.

Imagine the chaos that would be created if time travel were possible and anyone could go to anytime in the past to change the present. We would have no history and no future because it would always be changing from day to day.

BTW anyone know where I can get an OEM flux capacitor for my DeLorean?

Damn, i just sold my last one and they don't make them anymore. I'll check with my customer to see if he can go back in time and get one while they were still being made.

Unless our understanding of the laws of physics, there is not chance we can travel forward or backwards through time.

On a side note, my Delorean (ok, my wifes) hasn't functioned for almost a year. I'm sure I'll need some plutonium to get it going again.

i can see how it would not be possible to travel back in time, but travelling forward still seems very plausible. yet my mind is open to such things so i wont count it out until its proven. but how about scientists are on the verge of making antimatter reactions that have the possibility of making something much more devastating than anything that humanity has ever dreamt of.

It would seem to me to be more logical to be able to travel back into time since the past has already happened and is real while the future is unrealized.
