Battery flat, starter sparks!
The battery is flay, my apologies.
I used jumper cables to attempt to start my 92 F-150 this morning. The starter did crank the engine over, but very slowly. There were sparks coming from the end of the starter. Then I began to see a little bit of smoke. I think I need a new starter. |

Re: Battery flat, starter sparks!
I guess so! The armature has grounded out on the field. The jumper cables get pretty hot and tend to smoke too.

Re: Battery flat, starter sparks!
I agree, needs a starter. What year is it?Break the bolts loose by hand with a good 6 point socket if it is held on with 3/8 bolts with a 1/2 head. Those bolts are known for rounding off. Also specify if it has an automatic or manual transmission and that is the only differance in Ford starters.Stay away from Starters from AutoZone and Advanced, all I hear are replacing them a lot and they fai.l

Re: Battery flat, starter sparks!
92 f-150 with manual transmission, why would sparks be coming from the end of the starter? I have taken the starter off about 10 times. The starter bolts need to be replaced. I installed new brushes, but the engine cranks over slowly.
