Help with cruise 1990 Lumina
Help!! I have searched the forums but came up empty handed. The cruise does not work on my car, and hasn't since I bought it a few months ago. I have looked for a fuse that says cruise, but I can't find anything.
Can someone instruct me as to where the fuse is for the cruise on my car? And if that fuse is good, what other things can I check? Thanks, SDJ02 |

Re: Help with cruise 1990 Lumina
The fuse panel that holds the cruise control fuse is on the side of the passenger side dash/console. Open up your passenger door and look to the left you should see it.
Ive only seen a handful of luminas but most have a fuse diagram on the fuse cover. Pull the fuse, if its black or brown down the center its blown. Could also be the signal actuator too since they commonly had problems (expensive to fix imo).

'94 & older had no such panel on side of dash. '95 & up did. Will have to check owners manual to find fuse location.

Re: Help with cruise 1990 Lumina
Very common failure causes on early ones were broken/missing vacuum lines to the servo, or a leaking vacuum resevoir...
There's a lot of vacuum lines associated with the cruise system on the early ones...make sure they are all intact. Follow them from the servo and and the amplifier and there may even be one to a vacuum break switch on the brake pedal...a leak in any of them will cause the cruise to not work... Here's a lot of good info about the system: http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us...rInfoPages.htm

Re: Help with cruise 1990 Lumina
Thanks for all of the great info!! I was looking under the hood for leaks, and when I looked closely at the cruise control module the diaphram was all rotted and broken in pieces. I guess this must be where my problem is. Or is this supposed to be air tight?
Thanks!! |

Re: Help with cruise 1990 Lumina
Probably is the problem...or part of the problem...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/90-CH...QQcmdZViewItem Here's one on eBay...you should be able to tell if it's blown real easy....take the vacuum hoses off of it, push the diaphragm in and block the vaccum ports with your fingers...it should stay pulled in, if it leaks down and pushes back out, it's shot...
