Built CHEVY Tough

Built CHEVY tough

After what I (and my car) went through yesterday, I'm going to have to call BS anytime someone tells me that Chevys are unreliable.

A little background information on my car. I bought my Cavalier brand new in 2005. At that time, I was stationed in Detroit. About two or three times a month, I would drive back and forth from Detroit to Chicago (where I'm from). Needless to say, I put on a lot of miles. I'm now stationed in Alaska, which is about as tough of a land as you can put a little 4 banger coupe.

Yesterday, I changed my oil. Because it was getting dark and I didn't have a flash light, I didn't see that I crossed the threads on my oil filter. I didn't drive it that night, but the next morning on my way to work, I started hearing a grinding noise after about a mile of driving. I pulled over and looked under the hood. There was oil everywhere. For some reason, I decided to drive to work (about 8 miles) and then, at lunch, drive to the nearest shop (about 2 miles from my work).

At the shop, the mechanic heard the noise and thought the worst. When he removed the filter, we say a bunch of metal flakes. He told me that there was probably a lot of work to be done. However, after draining the 1 quart of oil that was left in the engine, and putting some new stuff in, it ran like a beauty! No grinding noise at all. The mechanic said that it was a miracle.

That poor Cavalier has been through a lot
From now on, nothing but the best synthetic oil for her!
