need help about 02 wrx engine

My friend bent one of his rods. the engine sucked water while he was driving. the question is can i replece the rod with out pulling the engine out. i have no experience about boxter engines. the other question is what it takes to put an STI engine on my friend's car. i also need a engine name for non sti engine and sti engine. you know the code like rb26 or 2jz.

Subarus have Subaru engines, Porsche Boxters have Boxter engines. They all happen to be boxers, but Subies never have Boxter engines, unless they've been swapped.

It's impossible to change the rod without completely pulling the block apart. Since it's horizontally opposed, you'll have to actually seperate the block itself into right and left halves. So, yes, you'll have to pull the engine.

It's possible to stick a 2.5 turbo block in with the 2 liter heads, but you bump up compression. In order to swap the 2.0 for a 2.5, you're looking at some nasty wiring. Would be easier to grab a 2.0 STI block off ebay and swap that in.

The 2002-2005 WRX has the EJ207, the 2006-present WRX has the EJ255, the STi always has an EJ257, and all other 2.5 liter turbo motors are EJ255's. The non turbo 2.5 is either EJ251 (phase I DOHC), EJ 253, or the odd EJ252, both of wihch are SOHC.

The 2006+ WRX does not have an EJ255, it has an EJ257. The same block as the STi. All 2.5L turbo Subarus are EJ257's...

Riiiight. Go on NASIOC and post that exact same thing in the general forum, I want to see how many people flame you.

The EJ255 makes between 230 and 250 hp, the EJ257 makes either 300 or 305 hp. The WRX has the EJ255, the LGT has the EJ255, the Forester turbo has the EJ255, and the Baja turbo has the EJ255. Only the STi has the EJ257.

To replace the rods in the engine you are going to have to remove the engine from the engine bay. Luckly, you don't have to split the block to remove the rods, and you have to remove the pistons from the block to remove the rods (be careful not to scratch the piston bore in the block). An STI engine will drop into the WRX, but you have to change wiring, computer fuel system, etc. to have the engine run correctly.

Any horizontally opposed engine is classified as a "boxer" engine regardless of who makes them.
