92 town car electrical

Turn the key to start and only hear click at relay switch behind glove box. Jump to solinoid and car starts and runs fine. Replaced starter solinoid, relay behind glove box, neutral saftey switch and ignition switch and still have same problem. No or very little voltage to ignition wire at solinoid.

Re: 92 town car electrical

That sucks..

You'll have to "follow the money" from the Ign. Switch in the Steer.Column all the way to the Solenoid.. that can be a real PITA..

If you're getting good voltage from the Ign Switch to the "relay", you can start (no pun intended) from there. I'd connect a Temp wire to the Solenoid for now, you can just hit it on a 12V source.

Also, and I don't remember exactly how this works, but the BOO (Brake On Off) switch might need some attention.

I hate electrical gremlins...

Re: 92 town car electrical

I believe there are two solenoids on the 92 model, one on the fender and one on the starter. It's like that on my 91's. I will check my 92 when daylight arrives. What was the location of the solenoid you replaced ?

Re: 92 town car electrical

Yes it does have the two solenoids, same as the 91 model. 93 and up uses a different 3 bolt starter and only has the one solenoid on the starter. I don't know about the 90 model never had one. Any input 1990 guys?

See link below for a pic. of the fender mounted one.

If it's clicking, you need to check the large terminals for 12V +
One should always have 12V +, and the other should have 12V + as it clicks.

That's the purpose of this solenoid, to allow a low amp device (ignition switch) to fire a high amp device, the starter.
The solenoid, takes the high amp load instead of the ignition switch.
