6 speed manual - like it or no?
I'm not talkin about the car here mind you (mine is a 2k2 SE) - I'm talking about the 6 speed itself. Here are my complaints:
1) sticky/clunky as hell shifting it - big learning curve to shift quickly and accurately. 2) LOOOOONG throw - I gotta measure it sometime but its ridiculous. Go test drive your buddies BMW and you will see what I mean - like a foot long throw vs a 2" throw. Ok, ok maybe I'm exagerating a LITTLE. I'd really like to see an aftermarket replacement for this thing. Another question I have is it the same 6-speed as on the Z? If so, I have to laugh because I remember the marketing for the Z bragging about "short throw european feel 6 speed." Bwahahaha. My 6 speed is more like a "long throw shifting in a bucket of steel marbles top of the line horse cart Korean design." |

i test drove a new 6 speed. sweet car but definately long shifting trails. my 99 maxima 5 speed is shorter shifting. i think anyway. the 350 z is definately a different setup in manual. shorter gear box and shifting points.:smoka:

yep, the throws are long and the gearbox is notchy. doesn't come close to comparing to a silky smooth honda. drove the 350z 6 speed, much better feel, with way shorter throws and less notchy, definitely

My shifts aren't too ong. I have driven a 5-speed 4th gen, and the shifts are shorter on it than the 5th gen. I like the 6-speed however. Helps in highway driving.

yeah, the 6th gear helps for mileage on the highway, but the gearbox and actual shifter are not up to the task for a sporty car, imo

Well its hard to say your shifts aren't too long unless you compare to a real shifter - like the BMWs have. Its a pity - its really the only flaw in the whole vehicle. Once you learn how to drive it it isn't a big deal, but I have driven 30 year old designs that are shorter and smoother. Hope someone comes out with an aftermarket fix for it.

well my opinion is that the new maxima is sloppy .. i think anyway. i like my manual better on my car. but true compare it to a bmw especially the m3, which my neighbor useto own. now thats what i call a 6 /speed.
