Replacing Head Gasket?????
I ws wndering if you guys had any advice or tips when replacing a head gasket. I havea 1987 cherokee 4.0.

Get a good service manual. A chiltons or Haynes manual is good.
Also, when you get the head off, send it out to a machine shop to check it for straightness, cracks etc. It may need the deck surface planed. I do this every time because, usually, head gaskets blow (especially on all -cast iron engines like this one) for a reason; often related to the condition of the head. This problem should be found and corrected or you risk having the new gasket blow again. |
