Aftermarket security system causing electrical problems???
Girlfriend has a '99 GC with 115K on it and some electrical problems. Turn signals sometimes won't work, windows often don't work and sometimes a strange clicking noise is coming from under the dash and sometimes from the drivers side door. While I had my head under the dash trying to find any frayed wires coming through the firewall from the drivers door I discovered that I think the previous owner installed an aftermarket security system. There is an audiovox shock sensor zip tied to the bottom of the steering shaft, a toggle and push button wired up under the dash as well with no real idea what they're going to. There is a pair of wires going to the drivers door, and several other sets that I haven't been able to trace down.
Is it possible that this alarm was installed incorrectly and could be causing some of the random electrical problems, and if so is there any chance of being able to trace it down? |

Re: Aftermarket security system causing electrical problems???
IUpdate:
I was making a quick run to walmart, got out of the car and went to press the lock button on the key fob and didn't hear the customary horn chirp, hit it a couple more times, still didn't hear it and decided to forget it and go inside. When I came back out I went to open the door and it was locked, but the key fob isn't wanting to unlock the car, I can't get the key fob to do anything, but it had locked it when I went in. I can mechanically unlock the drivers door, but as soon as I do that the alarm goes off and the ignition is disabled. After several attempts I was able to get the negative battery terminal off to kill the alarm, then after reconnecting the car started. While doing this I did notice for the first time that there is a sticker on the drivers window that advertises it is protected by Pursuit Security Systems? Does anyone have any experience with this brand of systems? And there is a pair of wires going into the drivers door panel, shouldn't those be to a sensor detecting a mechanical unlock of the door? |
