04 F150 5.4L -White sludge in oil-

I just bought a 04 f-150 FX4 and it has about 2 weeks left on the warrenty. So I went to check the oil and opened the oil fill cap insted of the dipstick. Well, when I opened it, there was ALOT of cream colered sludge and condensation on the inside of the cap and fill spout. So I checked the dipstick, and the oil is at it's normal level and nothing wrong with it.

Well, I wasn;t about to drive it the 35 miles to the dealer with the possibility of water in the oil, So I went ahead and gave it an oil change. THERE WAS NOT A DROP OF WATER IN THE OIL FROM THE PAN. So I wiped the cap off, changed the filter, and drove it to work. 20 miles round trip, and It allready had more condensation and white film on the oil fill cap.

When I took it to the dealer the next day, I brought the pictures of what it looked like when I first opened it. The guy took one look at them and said that it was normal.

So basically, is this normal, or not?
If not, is this a head gasket or something else?

i've owned three fords all three with the 5.0 the '78 f100 and the '85 e-150 would get the white stuff under the oil cap in the winter months. but the '88 crown never did have it. i talked to a ford tech and its normal its moisture condensation in the motor from the cold weather.

I would highly suggest that you check your PCV valve. If your enging isn't breathing, then it's drowning. I mean, if your engine can't pass the moisture, it will build up create sludge that you see. I have 5 '03 Fords in my fleet, and I don't see it in ANY of them at all. Check your coolant level. Normally, you see sludge in the oil, you have a leak in a head gasket. It may only be a pinhole. But I wouldn't say it's normal after only 20 miles. Dealer should be responsible enough to look into it. Oh, just because you don't see water in the oil doesn't mean it's not getting there. You don't need a puddle of water to create sludge - just water vapor. Again, check that PCV - and the hose as well.

definately check the pcv valve and follow the hose. usually the rubber elbos get hot and the vaccuum sucks it closed. squeeze them and if the feel soft replace them. if its the pcv cleaning it with brake cleaner almost always fixes it. now if its a intake or head gasket get a repair book from chiltons and fix it yourself gaskets are cheap and its not hard and saves you hundres of $$$. it took me bout half a day. (use anti seize on anything that bolts to aluminum NOT LOCTITE)
