thinking of selling

I'm in an interesting situation right now.

I have a chance to trace my Caprice for a 95 Lincoln Continental, that runs great.

Thing is, my Caprice was my first car, and I love it, but I have to be honest, it runs like crap again. The computer keeps messing up, and even with the LT1, now THAT starts to bog, so it's either wiring, computer, or something else I don't even know.

It sucks that the Lincoln has to be a Ford, because I LOVE Chevy's.

What do you think? Go for the trade, or try and try to fix my Caprice?

Re: thinking of selling

Well from a personal Chevy-lover / Caprice Enthusiest standpoint, I'd have to say keep the Caprice and say no deal, but from then again a thinker's standpoint I'd say that might be a sort-of decent deal depending upon the engine, mileage and reliablility track record of the Lincoln. Me personally, it'd be hard to part with a Caprice that's powered by an LT1, especially if I was the one who put the engine in. Keep the LT1, put the L99 back in, then trade!

Re: thinking of selling

I think personally the only ford i'd ever get would be a police intercepter crown vic, or the new 03-04 merc marauders. even though that would be kind of an oxy-moron since my avitar is anti ford lol

Re: thinking of selling

Just remember that any of the aforementioned Fords have that propensity to have an afterburning thrust-assist in a rear end collision.

Re: thinking of selling

Thing is, the Lincoln is in great shape, test drove it, that sucker takes off like a crown vic police interceptor, considering it's a front wheel drive vehicle... (i'd know, my father drives one), and it would save me on gas.

being this caprice is my first car ever, and i have put money in it, and had plans for that impala conversion, im obviously caught in an interesting situation.

Re: thinking of selling

Well it's nobody's decision to make but your own. I can tell you one thing though. If you do trade off the Caprice, probably not at first, but sooner or later, you will miss it. These winters when I'm not driving my Caprice, at first its like "oh sweet, big powerful, four wheel drive truck" and honestly... it is sweet, especially in the snow. Slowly but surely though, I really started missing the Caprice. But anyway, I don't wanna ramble. Like I said, it's nobody's decision but your own. Front a.k.a. "wrong" wheel drive cars, for me at least, get boring really quick.

the lincoln is faster, i almost bought a 1999/w black on black leather. i had a 95 ford ranger for 7 years and it was a money pit, it ate water pumps, power steering pumps, ball joints, wheel bearings alternators... computers. my mother had a 94 full sized ford bronco and it ate 4 transmissions in 5 years and was also a general money pit. i dont hate ford, but i dont love them either.

if i where you i would keep the caprice and work the bugs out of it. but like pete said its your choice

Re: thinking of selling

Ok, well, I gave it a long ride today (the lincoln).

Here's what I feel about it compared to my Caprice.

Likes:
It remembers seat positions, and it remembers shocks and steering settings per driver.

Takes off pretty nice.

Dashboard is freakin sweet, and "disappears" when the car is off...

Dislikes:
It's hard to see out the windsheld, because the rear view mirror blocks a chunk of it.

My feet don't feel "right" on the pedals.

It's shock compressor thing is LOUD!

So with that in mind, I don't know. On one hand, it's a nice car, on the other, I don't feel "right" in it.

Re: thinking of selling

I gutta say, i absolutely HATE front wheel drive cars. To me it just seems like you can't have as much fun and it aint the same as a true American rear wheel drive V8. On another note, you said something about a shock compressor so i'm assuming you're talking about air ride suspension. I have friends who have spent loads of money, time, and frustration into replacing this when it goes bad. But it is pretty cool to have for the time being that it works. Also, i can see where you're coming from about how you don't know if you feel like dealing with the problems your car has anymore. I once had a car with an ECU/ wiring problem and just had to sell it. I couldn't take that risk of wasting money on it. So as everyone else is saying, weigh the choice according to you, its your decision in the end. Hopefully we won't find you on the Lincoln Continental forums though!

Re: thinking of selling

Heh, well my father actually took the Lincoln, and will be getting rid of his Caprice (falling apart).

So if I ever did decide for the Lincoln if I couldn't fix my Caprice, I atleast don't have a deadline now.

Re: thinking of selling

I just realized I made a major typo.

I said my father was getting rid of his caprice.. What I meant was, he's getting rid of his 95 crown vic...

my bad, i guess inside i love my caprice and thats all my mind can think of.
