SOO OVER IT!!!! About Aleros

I have a 2001 Alero. It would take forever to start. A few times it also stopped while I was driving. It only gave me enough power just to pull over and then I would have to restart it. The waiting for 10 min trick did not work for me. It was so awkward driving it all the time. I was scared to fill it with gas bc I would get stuck in the gas station for so long and trying to turn it on so many times with no results. At parking lots from work to school I had people coming up to me all the time and asking me if everything is ok with my car. It was very agitating.

I went to different mechanics and they told me they didn’t know exactly what was wrong and that they can find out only if the car was broken down all the way. Finally I went to this place where they had the computer that retrieved the codes and after translating the codes they figured out that it was the security system 100%. That it caused my car not to start right away, and stopping in the middle of the road. He said that once the security system is fixed then they will get the codes back to the key and it should be fine. He estimated the cost to over 600$.

Now its in the shop. He was supposed to call me today to take it back but he didn’t and now they are closed so im assuming he’s not done yet. My biggest fear is that once he opens up the codes, that he will find other problems and that its gonna cost me thousands instead. I am soo sick of this car. It has been giving me non stop stress. I wanted to disable the security system but everything is soo connected that the slightest mistake will cause the car to never start again and I was very scared to risk it.

Re: SOO OVER IT!!!! About Aleros

Welcome to AF.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, the pass lock is an issue with many N bodies.

One thing if you have several things on your key chain this can cause passlock issues, no start - security light on/flashing.

Hopefully this will solve your problems, good luck.
