Exclamation 92 Caprice Wont start....

I was just wondering if anyone on here could help me out i am stumped and i dont know what else to do. My 92 Caprice wont start it will crank over and fire every once and a while but wont actually start up. Things that i have dont to it are new sparke plugs and wires, new fuel pressure regulator, new distributer cap and the rotor was still good, fuel pump is good TBI still good got good fuel pressure, and strong spark. Im not sure if there is a common problem for this year or not but any ideas you got would be very helpfull. Thank you for your time.

it sound like your car may have jumped a tooth on the timing chain. how many miles does the engine have on it? has the timing chain ever been replaced?

You replaced the plugs, wires, cap, etc, but did you ever check for spark? Try the old screwdriver trick and pull a wire at the sparkplug, stick a screwdriver into the wire's socket, put the edge of the screwdriver shaft about 1/8" from the block or manifold and have someone crank it. If you don't see any spark, or a very weak spark then there's your problem. Did you try the coil and/or ignition module?

put gas in intake and crank...if it runs, then dies.... check for correct fuel pressure.... may not have enough pressure use guage.....then if it don't start disconnect Maf see if it starts....could be bad MAF

Use a spark gap tool designed for the purpose, not a screwdriver - a screwdriver can end in the demise of the coil on these.

Also, to the original poster, the fuel pressure should be in the area of 9-13 PSI, did you check for this with a good gauge at the service port?

Could it be a bad IAC valve?

It's possible. To the original poster: Try to crank it, if it wants to fire give it some gas and hold your foot on the pedal. Don't go overboard though as too much RPM on startup can scatter the bottom end of your engine. If the engine runs with your foot on the gas but dies as soon as you lift off, then you might suspect the IAC valve.

The timing might be it i will check that tomorrow thanks for the idea. Also my car has remote start and that stoped working the day my car broke down, could the alarm system be the cause of the car not starting? Oh and for the spark test yea i already did that and i have a good solid sparke, but thanks. The MAF and IAC valve i will check in the morning thank you for your help i hope i can get it started.

Thats what I use, but I don't know many people who have the proper tool. Thats what made me suggest the old screwdriver trick. I don't know anybody who doesn't own a screwdriver .

yes the alarm system can cause the engine to not start....but if you have spark and fuel it should start providing the spark is at the correct time....

the spark plug tool i use is simply an old spark plug.......
