engine knock/low compression

can anyone help me out with a 98 sl1 there is a bad knock in the engine.
when you first start it it smokes bad for about 1 minute then stops smoking however knock doesn't stop. knock is fairly loud ( not a lfter tick by all means ) once in while the knock will stop for a minute or so. I did a compression test and #2 is at 150 lbs while the other 3 cylinders are at 195-200. also the #2 spark plug was oily. I was wondering if it could be a valve noise or hoping it wasn't a rod knock. anyway easy to tel the difference. thank you
