lock problem (1992)

This afternoon, after starting up my car I noticed the distinct smell of something burning, which freaked me out, but disippated quickly. Prior to that I had washed the exterior, which I don't understand how that could cause any harm, but it's the point before this happened. Once I got home, I noticed that the locks would no longer respond to the button mechanism, and I had to open/close all of them manually. That in itself isn't an issue for me, if I simply have to manually open them from now on. What really worries me - aside from the burning smell, although that's gone - is a green light coming from behind the driver's side keyhole. I can't seem to get it to go away, and I'm worried that it might be a drain on my battery.

any ideas?
