2005 Sebring wheel rubbing problem

My wife's 2005 Sebring vert developed this new problem this weekend. We loaded it up for a trip and on the way we noticed that the right rear wheels would bottom out and rub on the fender when we hit a bump or a quick depression. There was weight in it (me, wife-front, daughter-rear) but we are average weight people and it shuold not have been acting like it was overloaded. The car has 38000 on it, I thought it might be the shocks, but am wondering if anyone else had or heard of this problem.

Could have a leak in the rear struts. . . Meaning they would be bad and needing some attention. Or you said you had loaded it up for a trip. How much stuff you have in the trunk? When you unloaded it did the car come back up?

Alot in the trunk. It came back up after we emptied out, but it still rubbed on a good sized depression in the road.
