Question no spark /no power to fuel pump

goo day to all ........ hey i'm new to this forum and please bear with me i have a 96 lumina and it just up and died .

i'll start from the beginning the car shut off about 3 months ago on the highway ( just died) with no worning we bet the tank and nothing boosted it for a while still nothing then all of a suddin it started and it only did it again about two weeks ago ... so i left it where it was and went back a few hours latter and it start first flick with a boost then drove it about half a mile and stupid me shut it off then couldn't get it started again that night

the next day boosted it again and started first flick then shut off about 30 sec's later ,so i thought the fuel pump was gone cause i couldn't hear it cut in so i took out the tank and it wasen't the pump there was no power back to it , so i asked around and people said to check for spark and did that and found out that there was no spark to the plugs.

i was told that it was the computer , tried 3 differant one nothing changed .

i was told that the security needed to be reset did that nothing .

i tried and tested the wiring to the pump and relay that is fine.

i was told to change the module under the coil packs , that worked for about a half hour then it stopped again .

i got out and screwed with the wires and hit the coils and gave the computer a bang she started for a minute or so then shut off again.

i had a buddy tell me to see if the lights on the dash were all lite up when i turned the key to the on position , when it starts they all come on when it dosen't the engine light the battery light and one or two others don't come on which he said its i kind of check list that the car gos threw but he wasen't sure what it means .

so please don't laugh about this very long post but i figured that it was just as well to tell you now what i know and what happened in stead of you having to ask , so any and all help would be grate.

thanks to all who read and/or help thanks

Re: no spark /no power to fuel pump

New or used putrs? If trying used ones, be sure that produtcion codes are the same on both units.
Check cam & crank sensors also.
Check fuel pump relay itself, & fuses for same.
Don't forget to change the PROM from one putr to the other when trying different ones.

parts are used that i've tried . and when you say prodution codes are the same you mean what exactly . i have check the relay and fuses i forgot to say in the first post. what do you mean by changing the prom from one to the other , what is prom exactly .

thanks for the reply from what i see and read you guys are pretty into helping people get back on the road .

also i read that there was a guy who had a spark problem on a 92 lumina but never said if was not getting fuel not sure if he check and after a month or more and testing many thing he found that the icm was gone even though he had it tested twice ,. now icm stands for what and where is it located is it the module under the spark plug coils .

Thumbs up Re: no spark /no power to fuel pump

I have a 93 chevy lumina..3.1 engine
similar problems with it, car ran fine to walmart, came out, it wouldn't start
fuel pump changed, filter changed, plugs changed, sensors all tested
pressure regulator was replaced..wiring all checked....too many parts and a lot of money put in and still would not start
car was getting fire but would not start
......a local garage had ruled out the timeing because he said it had fire on two plugs.... as a last resort because all other logical things had been tried and tested or needlessly replaced, decided to take timing chain cover off..ended up the timing chain was broken in three pieces and the housing had a huge chunk missing from it
replaced the timing chain, runs good as new now

thanks for the reply , but i don't think its my problem because the car starts some times like the other day it ran for about an 20 min to 30 min then just shut off then about ten minutes later it started again for about a minute then shut off again i haven't been at it in a week because the car is at someone else house and there house is about a half hour away . i have no other car so i have get a ride back a forth and week days i'm home with my child and have no one to look after her so the only time i get is on the weekend's and then the weather usually sucks if you know what i mean.

i just can't beleive of all the people that are on thius forum that only two people has any ideas on this problem

now i have read alot on this forum about similar problems but most of them get spark or fuel and some get both with no start but i get nothing .

when my engine light and battery light comes on when i turn the key to the on position its starts but when them lights don't come on it won't start but cranks over

the only things i have left to check is the crank/cam sensors the wire from the vats module to the ecm and the wiring around the sensors and the icm wiring after that i'm after checking everything that i can think of and read about thats why i'm posting to see if there's some that has had or know of the same problem .

thanks again for the reply at least some one is triing to help .
