NNL West 2008

NNL West is a big west coast car modeling show which was held at Santa Clara Convention Center, March 1st 2008. I heard it was a pretty good show, and it didn't disappoint! I ran into a few of the local people, some interesting vendor exhibits, and of course some incredible models. I guess if you've been to a big show you know what to expect.

So, without any further ado, the show...

Just in time for the election, an amazing Flip-Flopper

My babies, lol. The 360 is not finished of course, I was hoping an AFer might recognise it, but no dice - was anyone here at the show?

(sheesh, enough of mine already!!!)

This was nice. Don G is a hot-rod nut I met a while back. Nice to see his models.

John Teresi is a FREAK!!! His painting is insane. Just look at the pics. Unbelievable. The pics do not these models justice of course.

The green thing got the magazine pick. It was really magnificent.

Yep, they're all John T's. Amazing.

NNL West is a non-competitive event. They have a people's choice and staff picks only.

Not sure if I like these mirror displays - too damn confusing!! Killer model though.

Yummy yellow...

Alan Ernat. Local legend, big-time comp legend too. Superb modeler, he's asking 6K for this magnificent build.

I think it's pretty old - 10+ yrs. The lacquer has yellowed slightly. He cut around all of those decals after they were applied to get rid of the carrier.

Some nice dioramas.

Lots of incredible odd-ball models to ogle at. Really eye-opening for me.

Amazing paint jobs everywhere you look.

The 360 got a mag photo request! Then the dude lost my hood pins, so it was shut for the remainder.

My God! A staff pick!!! I was shocked. (it was suuuuper shiny though!!)

Sensai Teresi again. A freak I tell you!

Getting ready to pack up - just a couple more pics

How hot is this?

This thing was unreal. Like a puzzle box - it all slid open and closed in really weird ways. The magazing guy was going nuts trying to understand it all!!

1/43

Don G won people's choice for this!!! It was unfinsihed and nowhere near his best car. Apparently a group of people messed up and voted for the wrong car! (hmm.....)

Hope you enjoy the pics as much as I enjoyed the show.

Really generous of you to share. Putting up all those excellent photos had to be a lot of tedious work. Thanks!

Re: NNL West 2008

I think the problem is that when something like opening the doors of a model car is done well, you can't see the amount of work that is involved. It's like CGI; when it's done well, you don't notice it.

Re: NNL West 2008

Your Modena is to die for, thank you for taking and sharing the pics with us. Do you have anymore pics of the Jag XJR-9 and Porsche 962C that were lurking in the background?

Well I suppose the staff pick is like getting one of 6 or so best in shows. Tx for the comments everyone, but I doubt it would ever win people's choice, there were much more interesting models to look at. I might have some sort of chance in a true comp, in the sports car category, I dunno. And of course the comp was rigged! Don G's extended family voted en masse for the wrong car, even he was embarrassed Sorry, no more details on those kits, only what you can see here. I can't even tell you the modeler's name as those pics aren't cropped.

ddtham: here's the best I can do on those beauties. Maybe you can google for the builder (Vince Vigil?)

Re: NNL West 2008

Hey Mark,

Once again thank you for sharing. I honestly envy your modena, especially how plush the doors and trunk were hinged.

Maybe I can send you my XJR-9 so you can hinge it for me

Re: NNL West 2008

Mucho thanks for posting those!

Man do they bring back some good memories!

I really like the idea behind the Rat Rod in the middle of the top row
of this rack.

Looks like a straight 8 was used on the frame from the same kit the engine
came from.
