OOPS!!! on me

HELPPPP!! HELPPPPPPP!!!

I did a boo boo. I have a 2002 Camry. After a bit of research I decided to troubleshoot the reason my "check engine" light was on but made one mistake. After connecting a jumper wire from terminal 4 to terminal 15 on the diagnostic connector under the dash I started the engine!! The check engine light is gone but now the engine doesn't idle correctly and it dies if left for a few seconds. What component/sensor do you think I burned up or at least make dis-functional. Thanks, Bruce B.

I think there is a very good chance you destroyed part of your ECM. I would start trying to find a used ECM from an identical car somewhere and replace the one you have.

Next time, use a code reader to troubleshoot your trouble codes.

I have to agree with Brian. Your car is OBD2, as all cars have been since model year 1996. You can not pull the codes with a jumper wire on OBD2 cars as you could on OBD1 cars.

If you do wind up needing a new ECU and can't find one locally, try Taprecycling.com. They are a Toyota salvage yard located in Texas.
