Won't Start All The Time!!

With all you Chev Cobalt experts out there someone has had this problem I'm sure. My Cobalt won't start sometimes. Just a click and the panel lights come on with the secure lock icon flashing. I don't have remote auto start. It's pretty much a basic Cobalt but I love it still except for this one thing. If I leave it a while and try it will start no problem. Dealers haven't a clue. It's costing me in time missed from work and I'd appreciate any help and insight into this dilemma!!

A 2005 Cobalt? Have you had the ignition switch changed? That was a fairly common issue for '05s

I haven't had that done and wasn't aware that it was a common problem. You would think that the dealer would know that. I'm going to find out if it was done though since I'm a second owner. If it wasn't then I will argue the point that maybe it should have been done the first time I brought the car in...I've had it in three times for this problem.

Thank you for all your help! I knew this was a great forum!!

Re: Won't Start All The Time!!

i have a 05 cobalt LS that has been having this problem for about 8 months now. i have taken it to the dealership time and time again..its there right now because it wouldnt start yesterday. it just clicks really fast, fires and then quits..sometimes it starts but wont fire on all cylinders..i have taken many days off work to try to resolve the problem..but the dealership dosent seem the think its a problem. i plan to sell it as soon as its fixed. p.s theres a reason the warrenty is 60K mile ...mines at 57 and its fallin apart!

Re: Won't Start All The Time!!

Damn, I was hoping GM finally figured out how to get their cars from this problem. Since most of these newer vehicles are still under warranty, I haven't gotten a call asking to get it fixed. Now the other GM vehicles with the PK2 setup is totally different. If you have the security light coming on while driving or when it won't start is clearly a decoder issue. It could be the decoder or BCM because these systems are very simular to the older PK2. The difference is that the Cobalts have both the PK2 and PK3+ systems. I thought this was incase one system failed but the other worked it'd let you start the car. Maybe not??? I can't wait to get my hands on one of these soon. I've made a ton bypassing the older systems!!!!
