04 grand am gt problems

i have an 04' grand am gt. about 2 weeks ago we had a couple of inches of ice making for some treacherous driving. at 1 point on my way home i couldnt get over the top of a hill because of no traction. the traction control made it impossible so i turned it off. i revved the guts out of the engine while cutting to wheels side to side to try to get over the hill. after i made it over the top, i turned the traction control back on. before i could get home the service soon light came on with the abs light and the traction control light. the abs didnt work nor did the traction control. once i got home and shut the ignition off, i turned it back on and the lights were gone. BUT...... now out of the blue the lights come on and kill the traction control and the abs. it goes away sometimes after shutting off and turning back on. but it comes back alot quicker now. what did i screw up? what do i need to do to fix this?

thanks alot

Re: 04 grand am gt problems

My guess is that the extremely rapid acceleration off of the ice caused the computer to become "confused" which in turn caused the abs lights, etc to come on. I would try to reset the computer by disconnecting the positive side of the battery as well as taking out the ECM/PCM fuse for at least 5 to 10 minutes. If this doesnt work...the OBD computer will have to be used to recalibrate it. Hopefully the first step will help, hope you get it fixed. Others will chime in as well.

Welcome to AF baby ed !

You would need an ABS capable scan tool to read or reset the codes.

Also you could have actualy damaged your wheel speed sensor in one of your front hubs/bearing units. The scan tool would reveal this.

Though as chevyrulespops said, your PCM may have been freaking out a little, so you might give it a few days and see if it clears up.

Even though you abs and traction control are off, you'll still have brakes, but they can lock up when breaking hard on slick surfaces.

Hope that helps.
