CEL and high idle, about jumper for diag
I've read that I need to jump the diagnostic to ground but I'm new to the jumper wire thing, can I just take a stripped back 14gauge wire and use that? Or is it better to use something with a terminal on it so nothing archs? Would hate to fuck it up on a dumbass mistake

Re: CEL and high idle, about jumper for diag
Alright, pulled codes 13 and 22. I have yet to check the o2 sensor because it's 2am but wanted to know, though I read something on here about not liking Bosch parts on these trucks? is that right?
Only options I'm finding around here are Bosch, Denso, NTK, Delphi, what's the best for these? 22 says it's for the TPS, still gotta check that out, any tips????? |

Re: CEL and high idle, about jumper for diag
Did you get the code 12 at the very beginning and end?
The code 13 says the O2 circuit is open, you might check the connections first. Same with the TPS code. You should be able to take the wiring connector off the TPS and check the resistance with a digital volt-ohm meter...I just don't know the specs for an OBDI Blazer 4.3...anyone else? |

Re: CEL and high idle, about jumper for diag
Yeah 12 at the start and end with 13 and 22 in the middle.
I figured as much about the o2 code, and I'm waiting on that until a later date(few days). Just went and bought a new tps, from reading dozens of posts here about it it's the lesser of the two evils between the tps and iac and figured to have at least a 50/50 shot of helping. Changed the tps and started it up, idles fine now, doesn't hesitate with increased throttle nor does it try to stall when the rpm's fall back to idle afterwards. Strong fuel response so I feel good about it, but will get a better test in about two hours when I make the ten mile drive to work. Will post the results here later. I did notice one thing though, my oil pressure is up around 60-70 at idle now and it wasn't before, did I do something wrong when changing the tps to cause this? FYI - I know about cars, mostly 70's fords and newer VW's, so sorry for any dumb questions about this 91 blazer. Thanks Chris |

Re: CEL and high idle, about jumper for diag
Glad you came out good on the TPS. I think the 4.3's have higher oil pressure than the older stuff and seem to hold it better hot too. They don't need thick oil either...I use 10W-40 in my '92 w/194K. I'd just take it easy cold.

Re: CEL and high idle, about jumper for diag
Yeah it appears to be a good move, check engine light hasn't come on since I changed it, still waiting to see if the o2 code was just for a bad reading caused by a bad tps. The oil pressure looked fine as the day went on, but I did start having a problem with it stalling on me after steady throttle, like driving and then at the light once I stopped the it would stall.
Did it a few times were it either stalled or very nearly did, then again I forgot I was at 1/8 of a tank of fuel, so I filled it up and I'll see tomorrow if the same thing happens, and I read about the fuel pump and the 1/4 tank thing. I also did get a STANT radiator cap because of a thread I read on here, and while it linked to another post explaining why you should stant, the other post didn't actually say why it is better, didn't find one on a search either that explained why it's better, just some saying to use that brand only. Also, sorry for the long post, what's the verdict on using a bosch o2 senson, probably gonna replace it soon anyway, and bosch around here is like 25 bucks for oem fit.

Re: CEL and high idle, about jumper for diag
Our most esteemed Pro's, MT-2500, Old Master & Maxwedge advise OEM whenever possible. If there's no hurry you might check with www.gmpartspros.com or an autozone nearest to you for an AC Delco O2 sensor.
Come to think of it, the O2 sensor in my '92 is original equipment. Last edited by Chris Stewart; 03-29-2008 at 07:53 PM. |

Re: CEL and high idle, about jumper for diag
Decided to change the plugs/wires and cap and rotor and pcv before I mess with the o2 sensor, already spent a lot of money this week on this newly acquired truck and I need to start small.
And yeah autozone has a bosch for $22 while that site you gave me has the ac delco for $20, even with shipping it's still a good deal, thanks Chris.
