Rear window defogger

I have a 1982 corvette coup . The rear window defogger did not work. I bought a replacement kit. The grid is on and checks out OK THe problem is When it is turned on it wiil pot the fuse in about 10 seconds. Up on testing the grid I have 60 ohms of resistence. I need to increse the resistence. How do I do this.I cant seem to find a resistor to put in the line. Any body have any idears. Thank You , Maurice

Re: Rear window defogger

Sounds like you have a possible short to ground, the defogger grid should supply the required resistance if properly wired.

disconnect the grid and see if fuse does not blow . what fuse amperage are you using ....? also try disconnecting the ground terminal and see if its blowing the fuse....with positive connected....,that way you'll know if grid is shorted to chassis..i would not increase the resistance , as it will not heat the window properly.....make sure that the positive wire terminal to grid is covered with tape......
