What gives..???..trannys different
Hey, folks...I'm in the process of pulling the trans (5 spd. man) out of my '96 Swift parts car when I see a shaft that just wasn't there on my '91 XFI or my '95 std Metro. The drive shaft on the drivers side looks the same, but on the pas. side, there's a ridgid shaft coming out of the trans...it's got a slight taper to it...maybe 8-10" long, & the drive shaft connects to it. Also, the pass. side drive shaft is about 2" shorter than the one that came out of the XFI, & the bearing surface & seal on the side that drives the wheel looks different. I'm off work for the weekend, so I don't have access to my dial calipers, or I'd give you exact dimensions...Am I SOL, or do I just need to pick up a part??....HELP...I REALLY need to get the XFI running so I can repair the rusted frame on the '95...it's getting pretty scary looking, & at the moment, it's my daily driver....Thanx in advance

Re: What gives..???..trannys different
is the one your pulling it out of a 4 cyl car? tranny will still interchange, just unbolt the bearing on the end of that extra shaft and pull it out of the transmission. the swift GT also has that center bearing on the axle to help control torque steer. you should be able to use the axles out of your car in that tranny just fine. i have use metro trannys on the swift gt and the splines in tranny are the same

crvett69....Thanks...I was getting worried...now I've got to get a new axle (original from XFI is in the '95). I've seen them on E-Bay...is there someplace cheaper to buy one?
