ok yes except corvette of course but he has none regarding this thread haha
 also if we want ot get THAt technical, trucks kept the short pump throguh 72 old body style long pumps are way longer and larger by far than the small pumps thereis a HUGE difference if the housing has big casting support ribs around the shaft neck casting then its a long one long pumps stick out a mile compared to short ones short pump i have laying around, note its small and funky shape and smooth lack of ribs casting, it is really close up against the timing cover unlike a long pump:

More specifically, long pumps have an ear cast in the top for the alternator bracket, most also have another ear or boss cast in for the power steering pump brackets, and the heater line (if present) will have a nub on the top of the water pump, aiming back and to the right (passenger side) at an angle.
Short pumps have no ears and have the heater line (again, if present) on the side coming out sideways as in the picture above. If your alternator bolts to the passenger side cylinder head, you have a long pump. If the alternator is completely on brackets on the driver side, you have a short pump.

haha yeah we are gonna keep adding to this i guess
but really the two pump styles are HUGELY different long pump has ears and ribs short doesnt although there are a couple differences in some short pumps such as some of the old HD big truck ones they have an extra port and such for another heater hose connection, such as in the 60s C-50 and C-60 trucks in with ive had a couple of as well most recently a 68 C-6 with 327 hi-torque 2bbl and CH465 and 2 speed rear good luck!
