What are your needs? Any of the V8 gas engines they used in that year would work. The 5.0L is the same size and should have the right sensors in the right location. The 5.0L is very close to the 5.7L as far as power and gas mileage too.

Re: What other engines would fit my 97 1500.??

Thanks for your inputs.. I'm looking at the 97 vortec 5.0l engine, to swap for my original 5.7l... possible down sides..; loss of power;(what is the horse power differences..?? and will all my drivetrain work properly for 4x4hi,, lo.. 2x4..?? any other problems in installing the 5.0?? exh. manifold,?? tranny mounting..?? would it fit just right..??.. POSSIBLE UPSIDES..; Save some gas money.. ;putting over $100 in gas fiil ups just kills me.. giving me 15 mpg... I wonder if the 5.0 can give me much savings in the gas .. (Well.. if I cared so much about a burb gas milage.. I should not even drive this beast of a truck.. but.. you know.. it drives nicely..I like the feel of the drivability..of this thing..(got it when the gas prices were not so high..never thought gas prices would go this high..It's a crime..).. your input is appreciated.. thanks..
