2000 Sil. horn alarm intermittantly goes off.

I have a 2000 Sil. for 15 months now, and other than fixing a few electrical problems, have been very pleased with it. Recently (last week or so) it has developed a problem where the alarm system goes off when parked and not disturbed, - I watched it this afternoon, I suspect a bad connection on either sliding door, but I did try to clean them a few days ago, dificult at -8 c. Has anyone else had this problem. I need to find out which door switch? or contact is failing, if that is it? Thanks.

Re: 2000 Sil. horn alarm intermittantly goes off.

Last summer, we were camping and someone's stupid car alarm woke us up at 5:30 in the morning. When I looked out the window of our tent, I realized it was my stupid minivan. Long story short, the alarm going off for no reason was just the start of the problems.

If your car begins chiming whenever it's turned off and you try to lock it with the power locks, or leave the lights on and they don't autmatically shut off, it could be your BCM (Body Control Module).

I'm in the process of figuring out how to replace my BCM right now (See my current post)

Then again, it might just be a problem with the locks. If you start seeing the other symptoms, at least you'll have some direction on what to fix.

I also came across some Chevy Venture posts that talked about rusty/short-circuited wires under the carpet on the front passenger-side. You might want to check that out. That might cause the locks to malfunction. Apparently this is a great place for water to hang out if you're in a snowy climate.

Good Luck

-Jesse

Re: 2000 Sil. horn alarm intermittantly goes off.

spray the plunger switches on both sliding doors . if the switches don't move good then they will stick a little and let the dome light stay on ,the door ajar come on,or the sliding door buzzer come on .on mine you could shut the sliding passenger door and come out in the morning and it would be open. make sure the ends are clean .these are on the doors, there are seven on each door i think. and the wires that go to the doors are under the carpet in both floorboards and are right under the foam pad and lay in a valley . if the floorboards in the drivers or passenger front seat area get wet then these wires lay in the water.
