Angry Power Locks!!!!

Alright. . . I know this has probably been posted a million times but I am new to the site and just need some help!!! I have a 2000 GA GT (2 door). When I push the lock button the car just chimes a couple times. I can unlock both doors with the button but can't lock either with either button. Both doors automatically unlock when I shut the car off but don't lock when I put the car in gear like it used to. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks

Re: Power Locks!!!!

Possibly a door switch problem, does the dome light stay on (or is it manually turned off)?. The locks are designed to not lock if the door is open. I think they will lock the second time you hit the button if you press it fast enough (if the switch is the problem).

Re: Power Locks!!!!

Alright. . . The dome light does turn off by itself. I also tried pushing the button a second time and no matter how fast I push that damn thing the doors still will not lock. I just get three chimes for each time I hit the lock button. Any more ideas?

Thumbs up Re: Power Locks!!!!

OK. . . . . Just wanted to post an update on here in case anyone else has the same problem. I pulled out the unlock relay in the drivers side fuse box. I definately didn't think this would help but I hit the lock button just to see if it worked. Sure enough the power locks are working again. I started looking at the chart and saw there was a trunk release relay (I have not been able to open the trunk without the key for almost six months) I pulled the relay out and pushed the button. . . nothing. I put it back in and it worked, the trunk popped right open! I also just put the unlock relay back in and the locks still work!

Re: Power Locks!!!!

Sounds like that lock relay is bad/malfunctioning.

When you hit the lock button once, it chimes 3X, then when you shut the door it locks 5-10 seconds later.
If you push the lock button twice in a row it should lock all doors.

and Welcome to AF Hungrycat7 !

ps- you could also have corrosion in your fuse box(on the contacts), especialy if you have a sun roof!
