2001 Alero Engine swap with Chevy Venture

I have a 2001 Alero with a bad 3.4 engine/tranny. I have a 1998 Chevy Venture with a good 3.4 engine/tranny. The Venture was just rear ended and totalled. It has only 60k on engine/tranny.

Anyway... would like to put the Venture engine/tranny into the Alero but not sure if it is a direct swap or do I have to replace computer modules or other sensors for it to work?

Any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance....

Re: 2001 Alero Engine swap with Chevy Venture

Your computer should run it just fine, however you might have to swap, or more likely rewire some sensors. I'm not familiar with vans, however while swapping a 3400 from a 99 Grand Am into my 95 Beretta, I had to use an adapter plate so I could use my same EGR valve, rewire the coolant temperature sensor, swap my oil pressure sender, and I think a couple of other things. However, I was going from OBDII to what is essentially a cruddy version of OBDI.

You'll have to look into the EGR styles on both engines, and determine how they are wired. My guess is that you can use your old upper intake manifold for your new engine, you may need the entire intake manifold, but don't quote me on that.

Some helpful websites for you:
