Question 94' s10 intermittant stall

Went to start the truck this morning for work, truck started fine. As soon as the head lights were turned on the the truck stalled. Left the truck set for the rest of the day. This evening hubby started the truck again and the start was fine then a few mins later it stalled again while he was under the hood. Started it again and diconnected the battery to see if it was the altenator but the truck cintinued to run fine so he hooked the battery back up. He backed the truck up and pulled it back up. Turned on all lights, heater and wiper blades and everything was still fine. He shut it off and restarted it and when he turned on the headlights the truck stalled again.
Last week when he was parked at work and had the truck running, he turned on the wiper blades and the truck tried to stall so he immediately turned the wipers back off. In between all this the truck has been running without stalling. Could anyone help to this out.

P.S. The on dash battery dumnmy is very jumpy and he also just informed me that the speedometer is pinned to 100 even when parked and not running.

You are luckie it is still running after a battery disconnect while the engine is running.
That is a big no no.

Check charging system and batery for proper voltage first thing.

Re: 94' s10 intermittant stall

MT, We had the battery tested and it was bad. We bought it in July 07' so were given an replacement. After putting the battery back in nothing changed. Took the Altenator and had it checked today and is working fine. Checked the belt for tension and it is in good working order as well.

Thanks for the info on unhooking the battery while vehicle is running. Hubby had no clue.

Does it run good on the road?
Next time it quits check for lose of fuel and lose of spark.

Re: 94' s10 intermittant stall

Sorry I hadn't gotten back to you MT. We had some computer issues here but we are back up and running again. I wish I could say the same for the S10.

Update on the truck. DH was getting frustrate with it so I called and had it towed to the shop since it was getting to the point that even the dome light coming on when you opened the door would make it stall out. The shop called and said that it was the fuel pressure regulator. We just replaced the fuel assembly in august and that would have never been my guess since it wasn't giving off the same syptoms for replacement in august.

Could the Fuel pressure regulator cause the stalling when something eletrical is turned on inside the truck?

Good thing is I have the reciept for the fuel assembly and it's still under warranty.

Re: 94' s10 intermittant stall

Yes and no.
If the regulator checks bad get it replavced under warranty.

But if it quits after turning on electrical stuff it sounds more like a electrical wiring problem.
Lose wire bad connection or ground or lose fuse or even bad ign switch.
Go over the power feeds with a volt meter and check for power lose.
And do not forget battery cables.
Check both positive and neg and where they go to also and
Clean and retighten.

The regulator is not electrical but if fuel pump is losing power the fuel pressure will drop.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

Re: 94' s10 intermittant stall

MT, we got her fixed. Well, they got her fixed. They found some wires that went to the toe package and someone (previous owners) had cut off the plug and taped the wires up and they came loose and were touching the frame. Also I can't remember which wires but they cleaned up the ends and reattached them. Both sets were between the cab and the bed of the truck.

When I told the guy at the garage he just gave me a HUH! look. Looks like I need to find another garage. I took my windstar down last week for a slight vibration/wobble when driving and it costs me 200.+ and it's still not right.

Thank you again for all your help.

Re: 94' s10 intermittant stall

You are welcome.
Glad to hear you got it figured out.
And thanks for posting back how it went.
Electrical shorts and problems ar sometimes hard to find.
Not sure about your repair shop.
Good luck
MT

Here is a tip on finding a good repair shop.Check around Ask around
Word of mouth from.
Family friends coworkers neighbors business people and delivery people.
Mailmen and parcel delivery people get around and notice a lot of stuff.
Even a good parts house knows what shops are good and not good.
Chamber of commerce and better business bureau and city hall.
If you find a good referral to a repair shop go look them over and talk to them.
Look for a clean looking busy place with nice people running it.
Ask a few questions and ask about their qualifications and training.
Not all places have trained tech/mechanics.
If they do not find a place that does.
Even all dealers do not have all trained techs/mechanics.
