87 cav 2.0 4i auto 91000 miles, recent tune up/fr. brakes done
I just replaced the dyng starter, now, after i gain a little speed and let go of the gas pedal, the thing just keeps slowly and continually gaining speed, as if i were still slightly pushing the pedal. even on slight inclines, if the engine reaches a certain momentum in either speed or rpm (not sure which), the gas just keeps coming! tough on brakes/braking! this didn't happen before I replaced the dying starter. I'm driving in the city, stop-and-go, and I'm having to ride the brakes way too much! My theory: replacing the dying starter really helped the electrical system in the car. i.e. the over-extended seat belt started working, the gas pedal (which was very rigid) /braking/steering all got smoother, the car instantly drives better with the circuitry intact, which is great since it drove like a fridge when I bought it -real cheap! it may be a small adjustment that was previously made to compensate for the fact that the faulty starter was bogging the car down a bit.(maybe on/after ignition?) maybe something needs to be tweaked back a bit, since it was serviced with a dying starter in it the whole time. to me it seems like a fuel pump/valve issue, or idle speed. it may be some easy adjustment anyone? |

Re: cav accelerates after releasing gas!
i had a problem liek that once, when it sticks i used to jsut give it a quick jolt to the gas petal and it usually backed down, but i asked my uncle about this one, it sounds like there was an adjustment somewhere that was used to compensate for the bad starter, he said he'll look into what exactly should be tweaked back, ill post when i know

Re: cav accelerates after releasing gas!
Did you check the cable linkage. Mine did that just before it broke. Lubricate it and be sure its not frayed and sticking.
If that is not it, I'd sure like to know what is causing it. |
