Opinions Needed: Supercar Headlights

I'll try my best to remain objective and not push the results either way.

QUESTION: What do you think of "multiple round open headlights/taillamps" on a smooth supercar body?

For example, the body below . . .

with the headlights below . . .
(especially the multiple round headlights with no glass cover)

EDIT: Just noticed the 10-day poll limit! Oops! (can anyone edit/change the poll?) Sorry, I haven't been here in over a year.

Re: Opinions Needed: Supercar Headlights

Fixed the poll for you.

Anyhow, I wouldn't like it at all. I think it would break up the lines the the design would no longer be smooth. It would look clumsy to me. Hell, I don't care much for the headlights as they are on the TVR, the ones on the Nobel aren't horrible. I still wouldn't put them on a smooth and sleek supercar.

Cool, thanks for the opinion and reasoning. Also thanks fixing the poll!

In an effort to remain neutral (positive or negative) I'll avoid saying too much until I get more replies / opinions.

Re: Opinions Needed: Supercar Headlights

It all depends on the car for me. I think the worked well on the first generation Lotus Elise, but I'm not big on the Noble or TVR's. They have to be executed very well (previous generation Mercedes CL is a good example) to pull it off. Single round headlights would be hard to distinguish from the 911.

Multiple round taillights are classic Corvette/Nissan Skyline/Ferrari. They generally look great, but it is good to see people mix it up a little.

Re: Opinions Needed: Supercar Headlights

Love the Bentley lights, round lights look good if they're on the surface, but the cut-out ones like on TVR's or the Zonda look awful to me. That said, I'm a sucker for the kind of sugar-scoop lights liked on the old Datsun 240Z's (I know it's not near a supercar or anything, but I like the looks of it.)

Re: Opinions Needed: Supercar Headlights

I posed this question here and on a few other forums; about 20% liked it, and 50% gave it the lowest rating. It's about what I expected, but someone posed the idea to me and pushed it, so I thought I'd do some research for shooting it down completely too early. I need to do this sort of thing more often!

Re: Opinions Needed: Supercar Headlights

design is design and it is subjective to the viewer, designer and relevant to the time period and fashion.
Do what-ever works with the car.
I don't think it is a good way to see it as a"this way is best" situation and rather it be better if you just do what-ever fits the design.
It just so happens that the current trend is for faired in lamps.

One thing you have to remember that the Noble, TVR and Lotus were limited in their design by the fact that they were using factory parts for their lights.

One more thing, it's not a supercar but i really like the look of the headlight treatment on the Alfa 159 and Brera.
