Tranny swap, will it work?
Hi everyone, yes another newbie! First things first what a great forum and a great bunch of people. What i have myself is a 92-xfi 5 speed. I have a chance to buy a very good 5 speed out of a 4 cylinder metro on craigs list the guy says it fits 1991-1999. Does this bad boy bolt right up or not. Any input would be great.....Thnx

It will fit 89 - 01, any transmission will fit and work fine, but the ratio may not be the same. Your XFI came with 3.79, if the transmission is from a 95 - 01 four cylinder, you're golden. If the replacement transmission came from an 89 - 94 four cylinder SOHC, it's a 3.5 or so, less accelleration, better highway mileage. If from a GTI DOHC four cylinder, it's a 4.10, better accelleration, worse mileage.
