1997 Cutlass Supreme 3.1 code P1406
First, thanks "AF" members for helping me keep my old LeSabre on life support ! Now for the new problem: 1997 Cutlass Supreme, 3.1, 113000 miles, throwing a code P1406 EGR Valve pintle position. First person that scanned it said, "Mfg's code, nothing to worry about". 2nd person said, "Take EGR out & clean it". 3rd person said "Take it to GM because a new EGR may not cure it". I did remove the EGR, filled the manifold with carb/FI cleaner for the night, sprayed down the EGR, & tried to flush out any carbon or light tan stuff in the intake. Autozone cleared the code, but it only lasted about 4 miles of town driving. Question is, do I roll the dice to see if a $170 EGR valve cures the problem ? I know there are the various electrical checks, but I'd almost rather go to the dentist ! Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance ....

Re: 1997 Cutlass Supreme 3.1 code P1406
actualy P1406 is EGR Valve pintle circuit malfuntion.
I would say your EGR is bad, but double check the wires to and from the ECM/ECU.

Re: 1997 Cutlass Supreme 3.1 code P1406
Thanks for the quick response. I'll try to do a check on the wiring .... TRY. Until I get the EGR valve replaced, will I be okay driving it ? I've got a 70 mile roundtrip, Mon - Fri, and I don't really want to "fry" something
. Am I REALLY in that much trouble if my circuit doesn't want to position my pintle properly ?Thanks again ..................
