plug wire orientation on distributor 3.1

i am in need of a picture of the plug wire orientation on the distributor cap on a 93 APV with a 3.1 tbi. i have looked at my all-data and the only picture it has for it does not show #1 in location with the square side. i think my customer tried to fix it himself and has the orientation wrong as it has a bad misfire. figured i would ask here before i went and waisted time looking for a haynes manual or something.

thanks in advance
anthony

Try this

It is funny the 3.1 and 3.8 cylinder numberings are opposite, the 3.1 having 2,4,6 on radiator side, while 2,4,6 are firewall side with the 3.8.... GM logic..

i know what you mean about the Buick and the Chevy being opposite, but the pick you posted is the one i have. from it i am having a hard time telling where #1 should be on the cap. the cap has a square side that points to the tb side when on the motor and the pick does not show the square side which makes it hard to judge from looking at the pick as you can pretty much put the wires on in any direction and it match the pic as long as they are 1,2,3,4,5,6 in a clockwise direction. i know its hard to explain but that's the problem i am having.

thanks
anthony

Re: plug wire orientation on distributor 3.1

It is what ever you want it to be as I was told. Have you pulled the dizzy? If you haven't then this should be pretty easy to fix. IF your looking at the motor and the dizzy is on the right side, I would make an imaginary line from the front of the motor to the back, make sure you are splitting the motor in half and you get to the back you will have two spots on the cap to choose from, one is at the front and the other is towards the firewall. Choose the one that is near the FW as the #1 and go from there. That will be correct.
