Arrow Oil Change and trunk lid????

I have an 86 cutlass supreme 8 cyl. 4 door. I lost the keys to my trunk and had to get it so now I need a new lid. Does anyone know if there are any other cars that would have the same lid? Also when I got this car everything was original. I am wanting to change the oil but was told that since it has been over 200,000 miles with the same oil filter that if I changed it now I would blow my engine!!! Is this true?? If so is there any way to get around changing the oil filter. Thanks Lori

Re: Oil Change and trunk lid????

200 k with the same filter I doubt it ,more to this story! A lock smith can open the lid and set you up with new keys, why a new lid? Nothing here makes much sense,.

Re: Oil Change and trunk lid????

I agree that very little here makes sense, however I'll give it a shot. Seems to me she lost the keys to her trunk (which is odd, as it should be the same key for the doors), and beat up the lid getting in. (again, odd thing to do, see a locksmith). As for the same lid, i dunno if anything is exactly the same. Buick Regal is same in body style, might fit.

As for the oil... . Thats just confusing. There's no way its been run 200k on the same filter. But to answer your question, you CAN change the oil without chaging the filter, as its just a screw on filter, but I don't advise it. Im sure whoever changed the oil inthe past had to have changed the filter as well. there should be no correlation between changing the filter and blowing your engine. If anything, teh opposite should be true. You stand a much better chance of "blowing" your engine if u dont change the filter. A filter does just that, Filters the crud outta the oil. Less krud = better. He he .. Judging by the post, you MIGHT wanna consult a local mechanic for your service needs.

Cheers,

Evan
