04 Ram 2500 Hemi will not start

I started having this problem about 1 week ago- when I turn the key in the ignition I would have to hold it in the "on" postion for 5- 7 seconds before the truck would start- (it wouldn't do anything- acted like the key or ignition wasn't making contact). Not a battery problem- tried that. It seems like it takes longer and longer every day and is worse in cold weather- until today I gave up and drove the other truck! I am going home this afternoon to look at it- so a staring point would be great!
Any advice?

Re: 04 Ram 2500 Hemi will not start

Had a similar problem. Sometimes I hit the key and nothing. The next time it would crank normally. A couple of times it would not crank at all. I tried it several hours later and cranked just fine. It turned out to be the starter.

take the starter off and get it bench tested. the brass bolt on a chrysler starter sometimes will get hot and burn off or loose contact.
