93 bravada wont start. help!

we've checked spark fuel and compression it has all 3 but refuses to fire. It ran rough and the exhaust was glowing cherry red and now it wont start at all. it will try to start once and then it just cranks. are there any sensors or emissions equipment that would keep it from running?

What is the fuel pressure readings?

Have you checked base timing?

The engine is a 4.3 v6. We dont have the proper tool to check the pressure but there is fuel at the rail. How do you check base timing without tearing it apart? I wont get to it again before this weekend, so i wont have any codes until then.

Check with Autozone they may have a fuel pressure tester in their LOAN A TOOL PROGRAM. You can also buy them for about $35.00. Harbor freight may have one cheaper.

Re: 93 bravada wont start. help!

I asume you have the 4.3 W code engine non turbo right?

You need 51/61 lbs of fuel pressure.
58 to 60 on cold cranking to start it.
It will not leave home witout that fuel pressure.

Fuel at rail does not count.
Check it with a fuel pressure gauge.

Base timing is checked and set with a timing light with the EST bypass tand and black stripe single wire connector disconected.

Some connectors are inside cab under heater housing and some are at dist or firewall wiring harness.

Post back fuel pressure readings and base timing.
As said Some auto places rent or sell or loan fuel pressure gauges.
