96 Grand Am 3.1 Purging Air Out

I have a question about purging the air/bleeding out the cooling system on the 3.1 engine in the 96 pontiac Grand am.

When I do it I let the car warm up the loosen the brass fitting to purge the air...Is it normal for anti freeze to shoot out continuously? Also, How long should it take to get all the air out?

thank you

Re: 96 Grand Am 3.1 Purging Air Out

you might of over filled the coolant or it has too much...

the best thing for getting that air out would to be park on a slight incline going upwards... set it in park or w/ the ebrake... turn on the heater to full blast, turn the AC to the highest fan setting.. and the AC to the uhh AC MAX setting... while having the coolant cap off....

just let it run that way for about 2-3mins with out pressing the gas... hopefully it wont be spewing out... but after that amount of time.. bring the RPMS up to about 2000 or so or 2500 so the water pump may be able to push out any stubborn air pockets in there

hope this helps!

Re: 96 Grand Am 3.1 Purging Air Out

*Update*

So after a few days the overheating problem finally went away. (I hope)
The 96 ga gt didnt seem to want to get all the air out while in idle parked on an upward slant... I drove the car around for an hour our so, making pit stops to purge the air for a good 5-10 mins every time I noticed the overheating/cool off in heat.

The car still seems to have a slight heat fluctuation when I brake and come to a stop sign. The temp gauge rises slightly...(as if to overheat again) Then after a min or 2 the heat comes back and the gauge drops? anything on this? or maybe just some air still in there?

Also, How difficult is it to replace a drivers side window motor? I can roll the window down..but it is slow, and I have to help it back up with my arm/hand?

thanx for the help everyone, it is much appreciated
