1998 Rm 1500 5.2L V8 Auto trans dies

Hi

we started the truck this morning and it had just a little above E on the fuel. We filled up and drove about 9 miles, then suddenly the truck juddered a bit, then died, the check engine light came on briefly before it died.

We pulled over and then waited a few minutes, turned the ignition and it started and then died after about 30seconds. Did this about 3 times and then called for the AAA roadside assistance to be towed.

Hubby lifted the hood and checked the battery leads, one of which was slightly loose, wiggled it and then shut the hood again.

We decided after 10 minutes to try again. This time it started and we were able to drive the 2 miles back the other way to home.

The only thing we could think of is sediment from the tank fuel level, being so low and then when we filled it up, it disturbed the sediment.

It did this about 2 months ago, but the fuel level was not as low as it was this morning.

Any idea's, and where can we get a service manual online?

Thanks guys

You probally burned the fuel pump up and the gas cools the fuel pump. The general rule is you do not go below a 1/4 tank.Check the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge first.

yeah you could have packed the fuel filter if there was a bunch of sediment in the tank.try putting a new fuel filter on and see if you have fuel pressure should be around 45 to 50 pounds of fuel pressure. but you probably just packed the filter full.also the battery terminals could have not let the fuel pump have enough juice to run enough to give you enough fuel pressure to keep the motor running. a dodge takes a good hot battery with the terminals clean and tight to crank and run correctly.

The fuel filter is part of the fuel pump and the tank has to come out.Chrysler did this due to no one changes the fuel filter and it is a returnless system, there is no return line.

Fuel filter regulator is on top of fuel pump and can be changed without pulling tank if you are careful.
