Engine Rebuild for 92 Accord

Hello All,

I thought I had a simple oil leak, but it turned into a huge problem and now needs a new engine. It's a 92 Accord with 130,000 miles. My mechanic quoted me $3,000 (he said it's not worth doing it and just buy a new car).

Any suggestions? An engine rebuild is slightly too complicated for me to do, so I would have to pay someone. I just purchased it last year for $2600.

Thanks

Simple oil leak and new engine does not compute. Tell us more. Do you trust the mechanic? 130K is not alot of miles on the engine.

I agree, 130,000 isn't much. My mechanic (whom I trust, he has worked on the car for many years) explained it to me, but it was beyond my technical abilities.

Is it even worth considering replacing the engine?

Not for $3000...but a nice 120,000 mile salvage motor for $600 + $500 labor or something might be....

If that's the non-VTEC motor (DX+LX), here's one in Marion, NC that will ship it to you for $1067...it has 101,000 miles...one year warranty, and they can have it to you in 2 days.

Go get it rather than having it delivered, and it should be much cheaper...look around where you live, you might do even better..
