gst, tsi
OK i didn't know where to post it so i thought here would be best. you can move it where ever, if it diesn't belong here. (like you need me to tell you that
)so anyways i'm going to go look at a gst and tsi either sat of friday and was just wondering what i should look for besides the basics. the tsi is a 95 with a new engine, turbo, and clutch with only 45k miles on them. don't know how much actual miles the car has. he is asking 4800 is that to low and should i be worried, is it about right or is it too high? he says he has all the receipts, and a exhaust. the gst is a 98 for 6,000. this is what the autotrader add says Eclipse GS-Turbo. 20k on rebuilt engine. New Radiator, Water Pump. 6 CD changer/premium stereo system. Alarm. Dark Gray.

For the TSI, ask if it's a new engine, or just a rebuilt engine. The price seems about right though, depending on what condition its in.
For the GST, price seems fair, just look it over real well. On both cars, start the car YOURSELF and let it warm up. Open the hood and listen for ticking, grinding, rattling, etc. Look for oil-leaks or coolant leaks. Let him LET YOU drive it(with him riding passenger of course) and feel how it shifts. Try high-RPM shifts and 50%-75% throttle shifts. Drive around the neighborhood and get on the main street and feel the drivability. Do left- and right-hand turns and listen for creaks and thumps. Looks for dings and dents and consider the condition of the paint. And don't be afraid to bargain. Take your time looking at the cars and remember, you are doing THEM a favor by offering to buy the cars, so don't be afraid to take a while. It's YOUR (or daddy's?) hard-earned money so make sure you get what you pay for. The prices seem good though. |

Re: gst, tsi
When they say GS turbo make sure you know what that means. Its not the same as a gst eclipse. Cars with the turbo 420a will be harder to maintain than a factory turbo car. The engine management can be complicated if you dont know what you are doing.

Re: gst, tsi

yeah when i saw the GS-turbo i wasn't sure if he did that on purpose or it was because it was a GS and then he turboed it. thanks but sorry for wasting your time, i thought i was going to sell my car to today but didn't so as soon as i sell my car i should be getting one. hopefully

Re: gst, tsi
also, while driving, take a hard left (turn to the left untill the car wont turn any sharper) while letting the clutch out... if the clutch feels different then while normally driving, its probably about to walk...
