Wanting to get a Ford F-150

Ok, im getting tired of my Clunkerado and was wondering if there is any known big common problems with any of the 2002 and up F-150's. Im tired of fixing stuff over and over again in my chevy. I had a 05 explorer at one point and never had one thing go wrong with it, (well two minor things that warranty covered) Im looking to make the switch back to a Ford and am just looking for some advice. Thanks!

Re: Wanting to get a Ford F-150

great truck I have two both 97 4x4 etd.cab 5.4L, highly sugest the 5.4l Great mpg 16city 20hiway No muffler and Big tires. one I use for having fun, muddin, jumpin, racing(ran hard as hell) and just tearing the shit
out of the poor thing and besides normal parts (brakes, tires, oil, and lights) it just wont breakdown. A real beast! It takes 6ft jumps & mid-door water almost 4times a month sence i bought it in 99" my other truck i use for light mud, snow, and towing. plenty of power! even better with a pcm tuner.

just something to pass on-

my dad is a supervisor at the ford truck plant in kentuky and he tought me (as with any vehicle) NEVER buy a vehicle that was made on monday or friday. mondays their too tired to build a good truck and on fridays they rush cuz they cant wait to get off work.

can you please tell everyone how to tell if a truck has been made on what day of the week? 1st number of the vin? or maybe just looking at the paint job?

Re: Wanting to get a Ford F-150

The 5.4 has bad fuel mileage and is a gas hog.I know someone that has a 2000 F150 4x4 with a 5.4 and the fuel mileage sucks. The tune up for this engine including the 4.6 takes about 4 hours to change plugs and the book says 3 hours to change plugs. The front rotors are pain to get off due to rust build up,the only option is to cut the rotors with a plasma cutter since it does not hurt the wheelbearing and buy 2 new rotors.

Yeah,if you want to cuss when working on it.If there is a hard way to work on it,Ford has it.The 4.6 is known for using oil and is not cheap.Ford will not get inside of a 4.6 or 5.4 if you go to the dealer. They will talk you into replacing the whole engine

Re: Wanting to get a Ford F-150

The same guy whom has the 2000 had a 1997 two wheel drive with a 4.6 that was using oil. That is full of bs,look it up in Alldata or Mitchell's repair cd's,it says about 4 hours to change plugs and I have seen my father do them.Another problem with Ford is that they do every 6 month changes.
