Front door latch

Desperate, next door widow lady's 1995 Contour, 4 door sedan, push button auto door locks (not keyless). The front passenger door will not latch closed. After squirting WD-40, with the door open, I can manually latch the mechanism and it will stay in the closed position. But, when I try to close the door, it will not latch, even in the first position (not fully closed).

Any suggestions without removing the door trim?? Any exploded views that I might look at? I have a Haynes book, but it does not show any detail of the latching mechanism. Thanks, Joe

Re: Front door latch

CANCEL THE REQUEST. I tied the door closed so she could go to the Senior Center to get her taxes filed. The soaking WD-40 and the vibration of the 30 mile round trip fixed the problem. The door now latches. Joe

Re: Front door latch

Glad you got it fixed. While your at it, register over on www.contour.org. If you ever have a problem, post over there. The website only has about 2 active contour owners (myself included).
