I have a 2004 Grand Am w/ 113K miles. My car continues to run hot while in idle. Has water/antifreeze in radiator, not the water pump. Help!

Re: 2004 Grand Am gts hot while in idle
Could be the thermostat, though what is the actual temp the gauge is reading ?
And what engine do you have ? Hot can be normal, 200-220 deg . Here is the fan operating range.... Quote:

Re: 2004 Grand Am gts hot while in idle
Thanks xeroinfinity...
The temp is at normal while driving (200) and when sitting in idle for a couple of minutes or in traffic moving slowly it goes to (220-230). But as soon as I begin to drive steady at 55-60 mph it goes back to normal. Could it possibly just be a fuse? I have a V6 9not sure of my engine size).. Just a woman trying to figure out her car problems.

Re: 2004 Grand Am gts hot while in idle
I'd try a cooling system flush and some new coolant and a new thermostat.
That should help with the temperature fluctuations. If not then thier could be other problems. It is within the normal range that most of the v6s run with stop and go traffic. Hope that helps!
