New Spark Plugs

Ok Its time for new plugs in my '05 Grand Am. This is the first time I've done this myself on this car. So any help would be appreciated such as gap size and what is the best spark plug to use, i want to get the best ones i can that actually help. Ive been checking them out and there are many options and i just want to know what would be best.

Thanks!opcorn:

Re: New Spark Plugs

Go with OEM plugs which are prolly AC's. I'd use those or NGK's. Do not use Bosch platinums.
Can't tell you much about wires the prices range from here to there. Buy a brand name with a lifetime warranty.

Re: New Spark Plugs

AC Iridiums are what GM recommends, about $6 each.

Good wires are hard to come by, Taylor spiro wires are good.

If you look in the OEM & Performance parts thread you'll find bunches of links for parts.

Good Hunting

ya the AC Delco Iridium Plugs are nice!

the Taylor spiro pro 8mm wires can be found online if you'd like to go that route - pfyc.com - under grand am section -> under the hood

i use both of those, if you wanna take it a step further you can also get MSD Ignition coil packs for your GA as well - just ask if you want more info, ill provide the link and or you may be able to pick them up at a local auto store

I assume you have a v6?

Re: New Spark Plugs

http://www.shopatron.com/product/pro...=MSD8224/424.0

right here sir!

they're $45 each, times that by 3 plus shipping, it comes out to like $160 or so, thats not bad IMO for some replacement GOOD aftermarket coils, it took me 30mins tops to replace them (had to work around my front strut bar in the engine bay, didnt want to take it all off lol), also what I did was use a sharpie for each one and labeled mine for future reference... I put them on and noticed little better power and gas mileage, the idle smoothed a bit as well.. but def worth buying for terms of reliability!

if you wanna find em locally, you could possibly check autozone or advance auto parts ...

the name/part# is: GM 2-Tower Coil Pack, PN 8224

good luck!

ps, i'd recommend ac delco iridiums for spark plugs for these coils, due to the hotter more potent spark... the iridium metal would be more than enough to hold the coils power

edit:
ps, on top of that, ive also purchased a new ICM - Ignition Control Module, made by duralast for the grand am, not the greatest brand IMO but it was what I needed at the time to fix my car =/

Well I have the Plugs and Wires in and the car runs good, it smoothed out the idle.

Next step...Coil Packs

Thanks For everyone's input!!!

Re: New Spark Plugs

Carquest also makes great plugwires, the top of the line ones with a lifetime warranty.AC Delco plugwires Are grest too,I heard this too.Change the fuel filter also, part of a tune up and this is the mostly neglected part since it is underneath the car.If it is not changed, gets plugged up and puts a strain on the fuel pump burning it up.
