Serpentine Belt

The serpentine belt on my '99 GP GT 3.8 L came off on my way home from work tonight. It wasn't broken, so it appears that it just came off. I recently had the alternator replaced and I suspect that the alternator wasn't tightened down properly after the belt tension was adjusted.

Does anyone have a diagram of how the belt goes on? I can probably wing it, but I'd rather be sure.

Thanks!

Re: Serpentine Belt

You should have a belt diagram under the hood of the car. I pretty sure my GT has one and I've never seen a car that didn't have the belt diagram clearly posted. Mine is right in front of the radiator cap if you are looking towards the engine from in front of the car. It is a black sticker with a white diagram.

Re: Serpentine Belt

There is no "adjustment" on this car. The only way the belt could have come off due to the alternator replacement is if it wasn't set in the pulleys when re-installed and it jumped off. The spring-loaded belt tensioner takes up the slack and keeps the tension correct. Inspect the pulleys to determine if any have lateral free-play. Also inspect for free spin, and if any feel gritty or wobble, replace them or you'll continue to throw the belt.
