electrical smoke

My daughter started her 97 Sunfire and had a puff of smoke come from the somewhere in the steering wheel she says.
I went and started it later and din't see any smoke or smell that distinct electric smell.
I took it for a ride and did hear a clicking from under the dash when I applied the brakes off and on.
Sounds like the brake light switch?
I'll check in the daylight tommorow, anyone had this happen?
The smoke worries me.
Thanks
Gary

Re: electrical smoke

We found the problem , someone has done some tricky wiring using a small wire to power the brake and signal lights. Now to fix it hmmmm.
