Re: replacing water pump

Two ways...

1) position a prybar, screwdriver, or a special tool designed for it between two of the bolts to keep the pulley from turning while you loosen (but do not remove) one bolt, repeat 3 more times. Once they're all loose, remove them completely.

2) Use an air ratchet (or impact wrench if space allows). With the air ratchet you pull or push to keep the socket in the same spot as the bolt turns. With the impact wrench, it goes so fast that the weight of the pulley keeps it from spinning

remove fan clutch nut right hand reverse threads then....
you use 4 bolts to push off the pulley from shaft of water pump.... do you see 4 holes in pulley ? you place bolts in those holes then tighten to force off pulley.. .. when removing nut do so with belt on......

Re: replacing water pump

Wow, I'm surprised it didn't have a pulley? Mine had a pulley but the hard part was getting the mount for the Fan Clutch Assembly off. I ended up buying a belt wrench and big Crescent wrench to get that nut off. Are you sure it's the right Pump? My 99 just went as well about a month ago and it came with the pulley...
Just my 2 cents worth.

Re: replacing water pump

the nut on the fan will come loose if you put the wrench on it and hit the wrench with a hammer to act as an impact would . if this doesn't work try putting a wedge of wood between pullies the pop the wrench with a hammer .on an 'o2 8.1 the nut loosens to the left.and do not lay the fan down when you take it off stand it up.
